Weekly Words To Inspire

Last week of October and Hurricane Sandy is on her way. The Steelers had a big win in those interesting uniforms yesterday. Seriously, I think every media outlet has talked negatively on the uniforms. Who designed them? This is my last week in Pittsburgh. After this week I will be traveling for two weeks. At least it's domestic traveling!

Weekly Words To Inspire

I know it has been far too long since my last sending of weekly words... Let me just tell you that my trip was an absolute blast and I loved just about every second of it!
Amsterdam was wonderful. Copenhagen was very interesting, but expensive.  I'm slowly getting my life back on track and organized. SLOWLY...

Enjoy the words for this week... I added one at the end from Anne Frank... She was truly an amazing human being.

Tolerance means excusing the mistakes others make.Tact means not noticing them.
Arthur Schnitzler

The ability to perceive or think differently is more important than the knowledge gained.
David Bohm

One of the most important lessons that experience teaches is that, on the whole, success depends more upon character than upon either intellect or fortune
William Edward Hartpole Lecky

Weekly Words To Inspire

This is my last week in Europe.... Be home soon!!!

Have a splendid week!

' Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and forgiveness.  Your willingness to wrestling with your demons will cause your angels to sing.. Use the pain as fuel, as a reminder of your strength."
- August Wilson

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”
― Louise ErdrichThe Painted Drum LP

“Maybe you can afford to wait. Maybe for you there's a tomorrow. Maybe for you there's one thousand tomorrows, or three thousand, or ten, so much time you can bathe in it, roll around it, let it slide like coins through you fingers. So much time you can waste it.
But for some of us there's only today. And the truth is, you never really know.”
― Lauren OliverBefore I Fall

“Yes, I decided, a man can truly change. The events of the past year have taught me much about myself, and a few universal truths. I learned, for instance, that while wounds can be inflicted easily upon those we love, it's often much more difficult to heal them. Yet the process of healing those wounds provided the richest experience of my life, leading me to believe that while I've often overestimated what I could accomplish in a day, I had underestimated what I could do in a year. But most of all, I learned that it's possible for two people to fall in love all over again, even when there's been a lifetime of disappointment between them.”
― Nicholas SparksThe Wedding

I know this is a repeat... but I need to reiterate it again...
“It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”

Weekly Words To Inspire

This is the last full weekend of August. Kids are starting back to school. Football has begun. Fantasy teams have been drafted. Summer is coming to a close. I feel, for me, it has been another successful summer.
I was lucky enough to run the "Color Me Rad' race on Saturday with a great group of girls.  It was a fun run where color is thrown on you.  I've never taken such a colorful shower! I highly recommend a color run if one is near you.

Have a marvelous week!

Maybe this'll be my year

Train has a song on their new album called 'Maybe this'll be my year.' I love it.

So I've been MIA, not for bad reasons, but for excellent reasons!

June was pretty subduded...
Big thing was the Lady Antebellum concert. I've realized I'm a concert snob. Darius Rucker is AWESOME live. Go see him. Lady A, I wouldn't waste my time..
But this is how I roll...

July was filled with fun!

Started out completing a The Whiskey Rebellion 5k...

Then I was LUCKY enough to attend back-to-back Dave Matthews concerts. He is a must see. Even if you are not a fan of his music... His live performance is something else. I was "skilled" enough to capture this photo. I believe that this captures the feelings of a DMB concert...

After DMB, I woke up at 5 in the morning and headed to the airport to fly out to LA!
It was a blast... Here are my favs..
After I took this photo, I headed up the trail behind the Hollywood sign, in my 5 fingers. AAWWWEESOOMMEE.
I visited the Rose Bowl in Pasadena!

Hiked up an intense trail. Best views. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to be adventours. This was not from the top of the trail, but man... The views were breathe taking.

BING CROSBY. Nothing else needs to be said.

My 5 fingers entering the Pacific Ocean.

As soon as I got off the plan, literally, a half hour later, I was at the venue to see Toby Keith. It was a great show. It's been great to see how Toby has improved over the years.
Saturday I slept in for a minute, then headed out to meet some friends to participate in the "Ruckus." I was tired and jet lagged, but It was an awesome experience. I can't wait to do it again! (Well, I've signed up for another mud run on November 3 at Seven Springs.. the day before I leave for 2 weeks!)

Yup. We slide down that..

Now let's enter August... August was calm, until vacation.. which started with taking a trip to Bristol.
Look at that... Literally in two places at once. Bristol is an awesome town.
I was there for the Gentleman of the Road Tour by Mumford and Sons.  I can't rave enough about this event. It was perfect from start to finish. If you ever have the chance to see Mumford and Sons, do it. They were incredible.

12 hours later....
I was on my way to Myrtle Beach, SC!
I spent a week there and apparently didn't take many pictures... but I did take this..

Less than a month after touching the Pacific for the first time, back to the Atlantic...
However, I'm a West Coast girl now...

Less than 12 hours after returning from vacation I run ANOTHER 5k... The Flying Monkey 5k..
This one in honor of a friend who lost a battle with Lung Cancer..
Here we are again.. finishing the race.. Man it felt good. Felt right...

And now... this Saturday I'm running the Color Me Rad race and then I'll take a break until November 3.. Mud on the Mountain. I. Can't. Wait.

So that's my life for the past 3 months. It's been crazy. But it's been amazing. I couldn't have asked for anything better!

This is my year.

Weekly Words To Inspire

A few weeks ago I was very lucky enough to go to back to back Dave Matthews Band concerts. DMB is one of my all time live performers. They are true entertainers, if you go to a concert expecting to hear the songs on the radio, you will be sadly broken-hearted. They are one of the last true popular jam bands. They are true artists and just incredible musicians. Dave does what he wants and how he wants, which is probably why their fans have stayed with them through all these years. I can honestly say, those two nights were just absolutely incredible. Since then, I haven't been able to stop listening to my "DMB" Pandora station. I challenge you to go back and listen to Dave and listen to the words that he says, the lyrics, they mean so much more than just words. In my opinion, he gives a very accurate description of the world we live in. The words for these week are taken from songs that move me. The meaning might be a little hidden, but think about them. I want to know your favorite DMB song!

Have a splendid week!

"Standing here
The old man said to me,
"Long before these crowded streets
Here stood my dreaming tree."
Below it he would sit
For hours at a time
Now progress takes away
What forever took to find
And now he's falling hard
He feels the falling dark
How he longs to be
Beneath his dreaming tree"
- The Dreaming Tree

"And I'm blown away
I can't believe that we would
Lie in our graves
Wondering if we had
Spent our living days well
I can't believe that we would
Lie in our graves
Dreaming of things that we
Might have been "
- Lie in our Graves

"Then comes the day
Staring at myself I turn to question me
I wonder do I want the simple, simple life that I once lived in well
Oh things were quiet then
In a way they were the better days
But now I am the proudest monkey you've ever seen "
- Proudest Monkey

"How can I turn away
Brother/Sister go dancing
Through my head
Human as to human
The future is no place
To place your better days"
- Cry Freedom

"Take what you can from your dreams, make them as real as anything."
- Grey Street

"She thinks, we look at each other
Wondering what the other is thinking
But we never say a thing
These crimes between us grow deeper"
- Ants Marching

My favorite Dave song is by far Pig... I could put the whole song in here, but I won't... but I will say this song has gotten me through a lot of tough times...
"From the dark side we can see a glow of something bright
There's much more than we see here
Don't burn the day away Is this not enough
This blessed sip of life Is it not enough
Staring down at the ground
Oh then complain and pray more from above
Greedy little pig
Stop just watch your world trickle away
Oh it's your problem now
It'll all be dead and gone in a few short years "

"Wash out this tired notion
That the best is yet to come
But while you're dancing on the ground  Don't think of when you're gone
Love love what more is there
We need the light of love in here
Don't beat your head  Dry your eyes
Let the love in there
There are bad times But that's ok
Just look for love in it
Don't burn the day away "

"On this starry night staring into space
And I must say
I feel as small as dust
Lying down here
What point could there be troubling
Head down wondering what will become of me
Why concern we cannot see
But no reason to abandon it
Time is short but that's all right."
- Pig

Weekly Words To Inspire

I'm finally back from California... Although, I think it took a little piece of my heart. I had an absolutely lovely time. I was able to meet some incredibly people. I got home friday night and went straight to Toby... Toby was pretty good. It never ceases to amaze me how many hits he actually has released.  Saturday I did the Ruckus at the Washington Fairgrounds... It was an experience unlike anything I've ever done... and now I'm pushed to continue working out.. because I never felt so strong. I spent Sunday with my family celebrating the future wedding of my cousin.  I'm struggling hard with the jet lag. Hopefully, I'll get back on track soon. But until that time, I am happy knowing that I have a California tan! Have a fantastic week!

I'm baaaack! Well, I'm still in California, but my life is a little more put together than last week. I have been here for a week, and can honestly say, I'm loving it. I understand the fascination with Cali.  I'm lucky to have gotten to do a ton of touristy things, which has made the trip so worth it. The list of things include running up the trail behind the Hollywood Sign (which, that is a HUGE hill!) , I've gone to Santa Monica.. I ran the path from Santa Monica down to Venice beach (yes, the people watching is the best I've ever witnessed!), I drove up to Malibu on route 1... I've been to Hollywood... Drove through Beverly Hills.. Let's just say, this week has been awesome.  I'll be a little sad to leave this week. I'll try to post pictures after my trip

Here are the words for this week.

Kindness, I've discovered, is everything in life.

Weekly Words To Inspire

Well Hello there July, it's nice to see you and the heat... I hope everyone's last week was good. I did complete my 5k. It wasn't pretty, but it was completed. Recently, I've gotten back into watching documentaries on Netflix. This time about food. So that's pretty much what has inspired this week's words. The common theme I get from everything I read and watch is that we have to educate ourselves. We cannot leave it up to the government or to Dr's to tell us what to do. It's up to us. I've read and watched some fascinating things in the last week. So if you want to know more, let me know. But I thought these quotes were pretty motivational.

"Those who do not find time for exercise will have to find time for illness."
- Edward Smith-Stanley

“Just because you’re not sick doesn’t mean you’re healthy”
- Author Unknown

"There is no money in healthy people or dead people. The money is in sick people.
- Bill Maher

'Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food.
- Hippocrates

'The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.
- Thomas Edison

“Every decision we make at the supermarket – what we grow, what we eat – is creating a different future for the land, the farmers, for the diversity of our crops, for the health of our bodies and communities.”

This one really sticks with me for some reason... I guess because I never truly thought of food this way... so bluntly stated.

“The food you eat either makes you morehealthy or less healthy. Those are your options.”

Weekly Words To Inspire

So here we are. July... and for some of us, we get Wednesday off. I will be running a 5k on Wednesday morning. If the forecast is accurate, it's going to be a hot one!
The week has been good and busy. My father brought up a new desk for me! Whoop! It's a rolltop desk. I had to say good-bye from the desk I bought my junior year in college. Then I started to think how old the desk and then immediately turned my attention away! I found out to get Sammy to do what you want, if you bribe her, she will do it. So far, I'm out an ice cream bar (because she dove off the diving board, and it actually looked like a dive) and I owe her something else because she played a 'good' game on Saturday. I have a feeling, she will be expensive!

So I finally have finished watching the entire series of Cheers. Man. It's underrated. I will say in the final season it got old. But I just don't see how it doesn't get the recognition for being a great comedy. I have literally laughed to tears in some of the episodes.  The words for this week are taken from the last episode... as well as the series finale of The Wonder Years (which I believe is next on the list) and Roseanne (Mom, I know you hate Roseanne, but it's good I promise. I've already watched this series.)

I wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July.
I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him. ~ Abraham Lincoln

" I'm not ashamed to admit, what i think we are all feeling. Time goes by so fast. People go in and out of your life. You know, you should never miss an opportunity to tell these people how much they mean to you..."
- Fraiser

"You know something, I hate change. I mean, you know. Everyday you wake up, somethinga change. Everything changes. Changes so fast. I like things to stay the way they are. I like things you can count on."

Norm: "You know what I think the most important thing in life is? Love. You want to know what I love?"
Sam: "Beer Norm."
Norm:"Yeah, I'll have a quick one."
Norm: " Sammy,I love that stool! If there’s a heaven, I don’t wanna go there unless my stool is waiting for me. And I tell you what, even God better not be on it. I don’t think it matters what you love, Sammy. Could be a person. Could be a thing. As long as you love it totally, completely, without judgement. You can never be unfaithful to your one true love. You always come back to her."

Couldn't forget the WOnder Years...
"Growing up happens in a heartbeat. One day you're in diapers, the next day you're gone. But the memories of childhood stay with you for the long haul. I remember a place, a town, a house, like a lot of houses. A yard like a lot of other yards. On a street like a lot of other streets. And the thing is, after all these years, I still look back...with wonder."

Roseanne Series Finale...
"And then Darlene had the baby, and it almost died. I snapped out of the mourning immediately, and all of my life energy turned into choosing life. In choosing life, I realized that my dreams of being a writer wouldn't just come true; I had to do the work. And as I wrote about my life, I relived it, and whatever I didn't like, I rearranged. I made a commitment to finish my story even if I had to write in the basement in the middle of the night while everyone else was asleep. But the more I wrote, the more I understood myself and why I had made the choices I made, and that was the real jackpot. I learned that dreams don't work without action; I learned that no one could stop me but me. I learned that love is stronger than hate. And most important, I learned that God does exist. He and/or She is right inside you, underneath the pain, the sorrow, and the shame. I think I'll be a lot better now that this book is done. "

Take it easy.

Last week was awesome.... I had 2 back to back games. Which I have now admitted, I am to old to continue to do! I did the 9th week of my 10 week lifting program... and I'm killing it. I saw Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. Only about my favorite band ever. They had an awesome opener Taylor Carlson who sings
'Waiting for me.' Which has become an addiction to me. His cd's are awesome. Huge fan, this girl has become! The weekend was spent with the family and enjoying life.
Here's to hoping this next week is just as glorious!

I have taken a huge hiatus. Blogger wasn't working for a minute... then work has been getting in the way of my personal life! I know, right?!

Life is great. It's busy, but it's been great. I'm so glad it's summer. I finally purchased a real air conditioning unit so it won't be hotter in my place than outside. Baby steps people. It's only taken 6 years...

Then & Now

Since I quit my last job, life has.... life has been good. I've had some extremely challenging times, but it's been good.... It made me think...

Then -
If my new boss would have quit the day after I started, I would have questioned my decision. Feared the future. Would have wanted to run.

Now -
I laughed. It's just the way life can be sometimes.

Then -
If my first audit would have started while my co-worker was in Denmark and I didn't have a supervisor, I would have cried. No doubt. I would have broken down and cried.

Now -
Took it all in stride. I realized what was in my control and what was not in my control. I only focused on the things that I could control. And in the end? I gained the respect of my peers.

Then -
If my supervisor would have cancelled last minute on my first draft report meeting with the auditees (who has been known to train wreck meetings) I would have spazzed out and  been all dramatic.

Now -
Got my facts straight. Believed in my work. Wore a heart rate monitor. And did the best I could. Result? HR hitting 104 :) But walking out of the lions den with only a few nicks. In other words a success.

Then -
I would have eaten the 3 bags of chips in my drawer that I see everyday.

Now -
I smile when I see them, because I have no desire to eat them.

Then -
I would make excuses on why I can't work out.

Now -
I make it work. I don't sacrifice my gym time.

Then -
I would have been hesitant to go to a music festival with my old roommate in Asbury Park, NJ because of the distance and a bunch of other crappy excuses.

Now -
I'm sitting on a Megabus on my way to Philly to meet my roommate who's picking me up. And I'm totally freakin' stoked about the weekend.

Then -
I would quit when things got tough.

Now -
It makes me work harder when I want to quit.

Then -
I would make excuses when I was scared.

Now -
I realize that's my M.O. and I don't let them stop me.

Then -
I didn't believe in myself.

Now -
I won't stop believing.... ever.

I can't stop listening to the song by OneRepublic ' Good Life' because honestly, that's exactly how I feel at this moment. What do I have to complain about? This is the good life.

What can I say? I'm halfway there living on prayer.

Have a fantastic weekend.
This is going to be one for the books. Moments. Great Moments.
I love Bon Jovi!

Weekly Words To Inspire

Well here is May, already in full swing! This weekend was one of the best I've had in a long time. I was able to spend sometime with my very good old friends, prior to sending one them them off to deploy in the Middle East. This weekend was filled with friends and family and the sun! I do believe that one lesson I learned from this weekend that the saying 'Home is where your heart is," as corny as it is, is right on. Being with the right people at the right time, no matter where you are, that can be home.

Congratulations to my friends who ran the Pittsburgh Marathon/Half Marathon/Rely - whatever it was, you are my hero!
Have a fantastic week!!!

My favorite for this week..
Those who enjoy their own emotionally bad health and who habitually fill their own minds with the rank poisons of suspicion, jealous and hatred, as a rule take umbrage at those who refuse to do likewise, and they find a perverted relief in trying to denigrate them.

It's back! It's been a crazy month, but finally, I got them back.

Enjoy :)

.. and in this moment...

... ahhh..... so the last few weeks have been an absolute whirl wind... and I've loved every minute of it!

So I had quit my previous job... and I had two weeks off....
I was able to do what I wanted, when I wanted, and however I wanted. I spent a lot of time working out and hanging out with friends... and just enjoying the peace.  I got really good at going and running and trail near me. There was just something so relaxing about taking a 3 or 4 mile run during the morning.  I was able to have a sleep over with my niece and nephew. It was so amazing to spend the time with them. Taking them to the Natural History museum and be a witness to their eyes lighting up with they saw the big dinosaurs. I even introduced them to Woody Woodpecker! It was such an enjoyable time. I realize how lucky I am to be able to spend the time with them.

Also during my "unemployment" I went to Vegas! I enjoyed Vegas! I know I'm an odd ball, but I LOVED old Vegas! My friend and I zip lined over Freemont Street and it was AWESOME! I had such a great time! All in all, Vegas was fun. I got a great tan, I won some money (Whoop!), and made some amazing memories.

Last week I finally started my new job. So far so good. I honestly cannot complain about anything that has happened up to this point.  I received my schedule last week and it looks like I'm going to be a very lucky girl with two awesome AWESOME trips... (more when the details are finalized.)

In the last few weeks, I've had a lot of time to unwind... to settle down and release the stress from my last job and to finally enjoy life. As I was on the phone with one of my college friends tonight, I said to her, 'Life is finally right.' I feel that I have finally gotten to the point where life is good.. and the crap that I went through, I went through to get me to this point.  Now that I am here, I couldn't ask for anything better.

One of the greatest things that I did at the beginning of the month, was......... to pay off my car. I did it 2 years faster than I should have and I did it 4 months earlier than I planned.  I cannot even begin to describe the weight that was lifted.  I have paid off all the debts that I accumulated from my marriage.  This month, when I get my paycheck, that money will go towards me and decisions that I will make for myself. Not past decisions, not someone else.. but here and now and for me.  I cannot even begin to express how awesome that feels.  I made a decision 2 years ago that I wanted to be debt free.... here I stand.  Nothing has given me more pride.

This really is the start of the next chapter in my life... and in this moment... I am happy.

Take it easy.
