Oh. My. Gawd.

I've done it.

I've done something that just simply astounds me.

Yup. That's my credit card balance. I am officially out of credit card debt.  It took me a little over a year and a half.  But here I am.

In this post I had set a goal to financial freedom.... My goal was to pay off my credit card by July 2012... Not only did I complete this, but I completed it early!!!!!  I am so on my way to financial freedom.
Today is a good... no today is a great day.

I did something that I believed was impossible.

It took dedication. It took a lot of support from some good friends....
It took me learning to say no.

I wouldn't have changed a thing for the feeling that I have now.

It is possible to get out of credit card debt.
It just takes patience.
It takes time.
It takes a lifestyle change.

Another way I have put the past behind me. Whoop.

Take it easy.

Weekly Words to Inspire

I can't believe that it's going to be February already... The Civic Arena is coming down faster than I'd hope... The Superbowl is next weekend (NEXT WEEKEND!). Even though Tom Brady or more so, Giselle, referred Crosby to a doctor in Utah, I still can't cheer for him.

If we worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true really is true, then there would be little hope for advance.

You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace.
Ernie Banks

Funny.. but true :)
Nothing is impossible. With the right attitude, you can do anything you want. It's all about choosing to be positive instead of being negative about things. Like I can look at "not working" as being "no one's hiring me and no one will give me a job." Or I can look at "not working" as being "a fantastic vacation."

Weekly Words to Inspire - Joe Pa

Welcome to the final week of January. What a month it has been. The ups the downs (and I’m not just talking about life here, but the weather too! The resurgence of my Penguins and dominance of Malkin to the Steelers loss in the Playoffs and the death of Joe Paterno. I’m not getting into what JoePa’s legacy will be or what happened, but he has some pretty good words to live by that I will use today.

The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.

You have to perform at a consistently higher level than others. That's the mark of a true professional.

Besides pride, loyalty, discipline, heart, and mind, confidence is the key to all the locks.

Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things.

I do realize the irony in this last one, but I also recognize the truth.
Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won't taste good.

Enjoy your week!

Living on a Prayer

"OOHHHHHHHH WE'RE HALF WAY THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LIVING ON A PRAYER
TAKE MY HAND WE'LL MAKE IT I SWEAR!"  - sung from the top of my lungs.

Never. gets. old. ever.

I'm so excited.

I'm seeing JBJ AKA Jon Bon Jovi May 19, 2012 at Asbury Park. Back to where it all started.

Oh. My. Goodnes.

This is going to be epic.

My roommate from college loves concerts/music, etc and tested the waters to see if I wanted to go (His parents live not far from there). I figured what the heck. Not thinking that we would actually go. But we are. We. Have. Tickets.

I'm going to Bamboozle.

We are going Saturday and Sunday.

I cannot tell you how much I love seeing Bon Jovi live. (This will be my 5th time I believe, maybe my 6th!)

But picture it. Bon Jov on stage, on a beach at night, in May.
Yup. Amazing.

Today is a great day.

Ahhhh - I'm so pumped.

It's Bon Jovi on my earphones for the rest of the day.

Take it easy.

Weekly Words To Inspire

Welcome to winter! It's cold.... very cold. I still can't believe it's January. I hear it's supposed to get warm again this week. It's been some crazy weather, that's for sure!
My back is beginning it's recovery. I'm still sad that I missed snowboarding yesterday. I really wanted to try it.  However, I did catch all of the episodes of Revenge. What a show that is. Not going to lie, I texted my friend who recommended it and told her ' I don't want any friends ever again!' I am not a fan of that show.

Fantastic Friday

Happy Friday!

Click here to read what I wrote for the local online newspaper. It concerns the Occupy movement in Pittsburgh. Interesting stuff.

This is not so fantastic.
So, bad news. Last week I noticed that my back was hurting. The hurt part isn't unusual, however, the pain was. So Wednesday morning, the pain almost debilitating, I call my chiropractor. I got an appointment for later that day.  One of my discs is bulging. *Insert really sad face* So he has cut me off from all of my physical activity. I asked if that included snowboarding. I already knew what that answer was going to be. So I have to back out on Sunday. I'm so upset by this. However, he mentioned that if I wanted to go he could recommend a great surgeon.  So, I'm taking his advice and I've been lounging around and icing. I went this morning for an appointment and I can already feel a difference. I'm hoping that things will be back to "normal" (whatever that maybe at this point) by next week.

The good part of this, is at least I'm missing the gym because I'm not allowed to go rather than being annoyed by all the over-crowding!

It's snowing here. It's beginning to feel like winter, finally.

Have a great weekend.

Take it easy.

Locked in.

So...... Sunday is the big day. I have received an invitation from a good friend to go snowboarding on Sunday.  Dear all things good, please pray for me. There is no escaping this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :) :)

Here's to a day of failure, sore muscles... and hopefully a ton of laughs.

Take it easy!

Weekly Words To Inspire

Well - we are one week into the new year. Can you believe that?  The new year has started out magnificently for me. The Mountaineers won in stunning style over Clemson. A game that will be talked about for years to come, that is for sure. Although the Steelers lost yesterday, I'm comforted in the fact that we lost to Tebow (which I'm kind of over all of the hype about) and not to Brady. I couldn't handle another loss to him and with all the injuires we have, we wouldn't have had a chance.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new year!

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.

That's my gift. I let that negativity roll off me like water off a duck's back. If it's not positive, I didn't hear it. If you can overcome that, fights are easy.

Word for 2012

" We will open the book. Its pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves.  The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."
- Edith Lovejoy Pierce

As the new year begins, so does the tradition of creating New Years Resolutions.  I do not know about you, but I can tell you that I RARELY stuck to a new years resolution for an entire year.  Naturally, about four years ago, I stopped making them. That was, until last year.  Last year, a blogger started an idea that instead of making a New Years Resolution which we never keep, why do we not instead pick word(s) or ideas that will motivate you throughout the year.  As Oprah would say, that was an ‘Ah-Ha’ moment.  I did it last year, and I have decided that it worked so well last year, that I would do it again this year, and share it with others!

So here it is. My word for 2012: Fail.  Yes, I said fail, as in, to not succeed. You probably think I’m crazy, but follow me.  All throughout our lives, we are taught to reach our goals, to achieve our own greatness. I am 100% on board with that. I want to be successful, but by my own definition of success.  As most people, I have been thinking about the past year or so and the common theme was, I have been successful. Everything I truly attempted to accomplish, I did. That’s a problem.

Growing up, I never wanted to lose. The one thing I learned as a small child was to win at all cost, even if that meant cheating, because if you lost, well then you were a loser and losers were not cool. Oh the joys of childhood.  I believe that as I have grown into my adult years, this concept has not changed.  As I write this, I cannot help but think how ridiculous it is to believe in that thought.  While analyzing my life, I have determined that I have begun to live my life cautiously.  I have not failed at a goal in at least the past two years.  What kind of life has that become? A comfortable life. I life of certainty.

I do want to get something straight here. When I talk about failing, I’m not saying that I am going to take a paycheck and go the the Meadows Racetrack and Casino and gamble it all away to say ‘Look at me! I failed!’  I’m talking about pushing myself past my limits. Pushing myself outside of my comfort zone.  So for instance, I have recently decided that I will attempt to snowboard.  I cannot help to think that I will fail at this attempt.  However, the probability that I will fail has added anticipation to the event.  To me, by attempting I will have succeeded, whether I spend all day on my backside (highly likely) or boarding down the mountain (highly unlikey). It does not mater, because I’ll be okay. The sun will still rise in the morning. My life will continue.  I have been thinking of ideas and I believe that I have a nice little list created.  I am excited to execute the tasks listed.  I’m excited to see how badly I can fail.

This all came about due to two individuals Steve Kamb and J. K. Rowling (creator of Harry Potter, need I say more?).  Recently, I have listened to the J.K. Rowling 2008 Harvard Commencementspeech and it was one of the most inspirational videos I have seen in a very long time. (Note: If you haven’t listened to this yet, stop right now and go listen to it.  You can thank me later!) My favorite quote? "It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default."
Steve is the creator of Nerd Fitness who wrote an article called ‘Fail more, Suck Less.’  He digs deeper into why failing is a good thing and inspires you to want to fail.  My favorite quote from the article is: “Once you realize that you didn’t die, that it’s not the end of the world, that there’s no lasting damage other than to your ego…the risk of failure suddenly doesn’t bother you as much.”

If there is one thing that I have learned from the times when I have failed (which is quite a few) it is that I learned more from my failures than I have from my successes.  Failures teaches a person their weaknesses. It teaches us the aspects of  life that could be improved upon.  Being successful without having failed first, teaches you that what you were doing was enough. Improvement in what you were doing is not required. So it is time for me to start taking risks again.  Start giving myself the opportunity to fail.

This year, try something new. Don’t go through the motions and create anotherNew Years Resolution which you have no desire to keep, but choose a word or an idea to motivate you through out the year to improve your life.
Some examples could be:
  • Thankful - to be more thankful for the blessings in your life.
  • Balance - to find more balance in your life.
  • Freedom - this could be financial freedom, freedom from your past, freedom from whatever is holding you down.
  • Organization - to make 2012 the year you finally get organized.

The possibilities are endless. When you decide on your word, write it down.  Put it some place where you will see it everyday. Remind yourself everyday of that word.  Make this year the year where you are motivated all 365 days (I know it’s a leap year, so you get a freebie day!).
So that's it. That's my word. That's my reasoning. So go. Go now and choose your own word(s)! And DO NOT be afraid to fail!
I wish you a very happy and healthy New Year!

Take it easy.
